Amber Halsall is an award-winning artist contemporary botanical artist, she is a member of both the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) and the Society of Graphic Fine Artist's (SGFA).

Inspiration

Amber Halsall crafts intricately detailed artwork across various media. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding natural world, Amber focuses on autumnal and vegetable subjects, often discovered during walks in the picturesque Kent countryside or harvested from her own garden. She relishes the challenge of capturing motion through a dynamic blend of loose and detailed styles within her compositions.

Beginnings...

After completing a fine art degree at Canterbury Art College, Amber Halsall developed a keen interest in Botanical Art during a visit to Kew Gardens. The experience inspired her to paint subjects from nature that she holds dear, ultimately leading to her career as a full-time artist, which commenced in 1995.

Amber submitted her initial artworks to the Society of Botanical Artists in 2004 and experienced the joy of being granted full membership in 2009. Recognizing her talent and contributions, the Society of Graphic Fine Art awarded her Associate membership in 2019.

As an Artist and Illustrator specializing in subjects from nature, Amber prioritizes working directly from life whenever possible. Her artistic style has undergone significant evolution over the past five years, with her current focus centred on capturing movement and composition within the picture space. Amber possesses a profound passion for creating intricate details using coloured pencils. She also enjoys exploring various materials, including unconventional choices for botanical art, resulting in the development of her own technique that combines acrylic ink and coloured pencil.

Amber's artistic pursuits extend to creating handmade individual artist books, each uniquely crafted with a nature or botanical theme and featuring original artwork. Examples of her artist books can be found in the "Artist Books" section of her website underneath "Collections".

Exhibitions

Having exhibited her work in numerous locations, both domestically and internationally, including the USA, Europe, and China, Amber takes pride in her accomplishments. Notably, she was honoured with the Great Art Award at the 2014 Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition. Amber regularly showcases her artwork at the annual exhibitions of the Society of Botanical Artists and the Society of Graphic Fine Art held at the Mall Galleries in London.

In addition to her artistic endeavours, Amber shares her expertise by teaching botanical watercolour and coloured pencil techniques at various locations throughout the country. As an instructor, she prioritizes personalized instruction, fostering a patient and encouraging environment.
